Weddings in the age of covid-19

It has been a difficult year for all of us, and whenever things seem to be improving it seems another spanner in the works comes along. But we will beat this. And I look forward to being back at weddings and capturing all your amazing memories.

For now, in light of the ongoing developments around Coronavirus (COVID-19) I wanted to answer some of the most commonly asked questions.

COULD CORONAVIRUS COVID-19 AFFECT OUR WEDDING?

Understandably you’re worried about your wedding plans and the health and safety of your loved ones. None of us know the future, so the best we can do is try to find our way through this unprecedented situation together.

Your wedding might not be able to go ahead because of Covid-19 - there, I said it.

There is not going to be a "one size fits all" policy I can apply in every circumstance. But continue reading to have a better idea of where I stand should Covid-19 interfere with your wedding plans.

If you wedding can and does go ahead I’ll be wearing a face covering, washing my hands, using hand sanitiser and keeping my distance at all times. This is to protect you, your guests and my future couples and their guests too.

CAN WE CANCEL/POSTPONE OUR WEDDING?

If you need to cancel your wedding then your first point of call should be your wedding insurance. They will talk you through their position specifically if the wedding has to be postponed or cancelled due to Conoravirus.

If your wedding cannot go ahead, or a family member gets ill and you need to postpone, then work with me to find a new date that I am available for. Being relatively new to wedding photography, my availability is still fairly good, so it shouldn't be a problem to simply switch the date on the booking.

There will be no extra cost for this, unless you are switching from an off-peak date to a peak one, or more than 18 months into the future for instance.

WHAT IF WE HAVE A SMALLER WEDDING OR OUR PLANS CHANGE?

Having a micro-wedding, or just deciding to elope, and maybe don't need the 10 hours coverage you'd originally booked? Fine, I'm more than happy to work out a bespoke package to work around your changing plans.

From my experience last year, smaller weddings are no less meaningful, and in fact give you more time with those that are nearest and dearest to you. In fact, I've found that you are actually able to relax and enjoy their big day more without having to feel the need to speak at length to all 150 guests.

We've all realised throughout this pandemic that things can change quickly, and plans need to change too.

I'm flexible. Well, not physically, I have really tight hips and leg muscles, but...

"PIVOT!" as the famous line goes.

WHAT DOES YOUR CONTRACT SAY?

My contract mentions nothing about date changes or Covid-19. It is not something I find comfortable putting into black and white terms. Date changes will be offered as an addendum to your contract, usually at no extra cost as explained above.

My contracts detail my standard cancellation policy, and that the 20% (min £150) retainer fee paid to secure your date and booking, is non-refundable.

If you simply decide you don't want to get married anymore, or that you no longer require my services, my standard cancellation policy will apply.

If you are forced to postpone your wedding and I can no longer attend then I can arrange for an associate photographer to shoot your wedding on my behalf, or monies paid can be refunded minus a sum for time and any costs already incurred.

Confirming your booking, drawing up contracts, invoices, sending emails, visiting venues if its my first time shooting there, planning routes and timelines for the day - these all take time and resources. Plus I may have turned down other bookings for your reserved date (for which I'll suffer a loss of profit).

I'm sure you understand that running a business is not easy during this time, and as much as I hate being in this situation, we all have bills to pay. That being said, I know that times are unprecedented, so if tragedy really strikes then please reach out to me and I will see what I can do.

WHAT IF YOU CATCH COVID-19?

I am doing all I can not to catch the virus. I'm asthmatic, so it goes without saying that I don't want to catch a nasty respiratory virus.

If I do catch Coronavirus right at the time of your wedding, I won’t come and risk putting anyone in danger. Obviously.

Instead, I will try to do my best to find a replacement photographer for your wedding straight away. I’m in regular and close contact with a large network of amazing photographers and we have all agreed to support and cover each other if need be at this time of uncertainty.

In these circumstances, they will attend your wedding and take the photographs, and I will still edit your images so you get my signature style.

If you choose to source your own alternative photographer, then all monies will be refunded minus

LETS GET THROUGH THIS TOGETHER

This is a situation that none of us wanted or expected to be in, and all I can offer is to work with you to find a solution for your individual situation.

This will pass. We will all get to hug our loved ones again. Until then, let's do all we can to keep each other safe.

if you’re at all worried about COVID-19 or just want to talk it through, drop me an email and we'll find a time to chat things through.
