York is one of my absolute favourite places. And it is blessed with a number of excellent wedding venues that make my life as a York wedding photographer a dream. Crowned ‘Britain’s most beautiful city’ it’s no surprise that York is one of the most idyllic places in the UK to get married.
The Romans knew it as Eboracum. To the Saxons it was Eoforwic. The Vikings, who came as invaders, called it Jorvik. York has a wealth of history and things to see.
Weddings in York are something else.
Whether you’re looking for a grand hotel, a historic old building, or a converted barn wedding venue, there’s plenty to choose from. All with pretty good transport links for your wedding guests.
York weddings just hit differently. If you’re getting married in York, and need a York wedding photographer, keep reading and see if I might be the guy for you.
I’m Sam, and you’re very welcome here.

PLANNING YOUR YORK WEDDING
So, you’ve finally got that ring on your finger? Or put the ring on that finger? Now for the planning.
And if you’ve already started planning your North Yorkshire wedding you’ll know just how long the to-do list is. From choosing your venue, your wedding photographer, the entertainment, and music – the list might seem overwhelming. But breathe, you’ve got this. Here are a few tips to help you get organised.
Write a long list of everything that you want to include in your wedding. Then reorganise the list putting everything in priority order. For most couples, the venue is the most important thing on the list. I’d like to think that your wedding photographer is in second position – but perhaps I’m somewhat biased.

YORK WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHY STYLE
There are so many wedding photography styles to choose from that it can be overwhelming. Are you a fan of light and airy images, dark and moody ones, contemporary or vintage images, or candid images? In my work as a York wedding photographer, my style is candid – I keep things relaxed and natural, not posing people, just letting you enjoy your wedding day and capturing those storytelling images along the way.
It is my goal to create pictures that are truly unique and special to you. I want your photos to capture the story of your day. It’s a wedding day, not a photoshoot. It shouldn’t take hours away from your guests – a quick 10-15 minutes, and then get you back to the party.
From taking pictures to editing them, I’m dedicated to creating the perfect images that capture your special day perfectly. I take the time to look through each photo and correct any mistakes, then choose whether black & white or coloured versions look best for the shots taken.
WHY WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHY IS SO IMPORTANT
Wedding photography is not only about capturing perfect images of every detail but also preserving the emotion that makes it such a special day. A professional York wedding photographer has the passion and skill to make sure that your big day is immortalised for years to come, so you can forever relive the most beautiful moments of your union. At its essence, this is why I love being a photographer – crafting timeless memories for others to hold onto forever.
HOW MUCH DOES YORK WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHY COST?
How much does wedding photography in York cost? When it comes to wedding photography, prices can vary greatly. The cost largely depends on the number of hours of coverage needed, the number of photos you would like included in your package, and the type of products you select. Prices can range anywhere from a few hundred pounds to over a thousand. So, How Much Should You Spend On Your Wedding Photographer?
Wondering how much a wedding photographer from York costs? I wrote a great article that explains how many hours of work typically go into a wedding, as well as the breakdown of my fees and expenses, so you can get an idea of what goes behind each wedding service. – Why Is Wedding Photography So Expensive?
Investing in quality wedding photography is a smart choice for couples planning their big day. It pays to hire someone who has the experience, skill, and artistry to capture your wedding in beautiful images that will be treasured for years to come. Going cheap is not worth the risk.
How much should you expect to spend on York wedding photography? As a general rule of thumb, you should put aside 10-15% of your overall wedding budget for photography. The average UK price for wedding photography is approximately £1,620; however, this could be higher in York due to its high rent prices and cost of living. Investing in a professional photographer for your special day will ensure that your memories are captured forever – it’s worth the expense.
HOW I BECAME A YORK WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHER
Becoming a professional wedding photographer was something I never expected. With my background in acting and performing, I picked up photography as a hobby during one of my summer breaks from drama school. When some friends asked me to be their photographer for their wedding, I saw the joy that came from seeing their memories preserved, and I knew that this was what I wanted to do. From then on, I continue to provide couples with lasting memories through photography.
Professional wedding photography is all about creating memories and telling stories. It requires incredible attention to detail and an ability to capture emotions, expressions, and moments in time. Just like shooting a theatrical production, every image taken should be meaningful and evoke emotion that will live on long after the wedding day has passed.

Take your time to browse through the offerings and evaluate portfolios to pick out a York wedding photographer who will capture all the special moments on your big day. At the end of the day, it comes down to three things – for me at least. Price, style, and personality.
Firstly, decide on a budget and allocate around 15% of it towards your wedding photographer. Secondly, get an idea of the type of photos you would like by doing some research into different styles and making a Pinterest board or saving images you love. Lastly, make sure to get to know your wedding photographer on a personal level – have a Zoom call and make sure you two get along! Your wedding photographer will be with you throughout the entire day so it’s essential to have chemistry with them and feel comfortable in their presence.
ALEXIA & MARC
TITHE BARN, NORTH YORKSHIRE
Sam captured each moment so beautifully. There were some really special moments in the day that Sam photographed and we had no idea until we received the photos and we’re so incredibly grateful for that.
Sam told the story of our wedding so beautifully and we’re so pleased with the results. Thank you so much Sam!
JULIE & JOOLS
On the day, Sam was everything we could have hoped for and more! He was super professional, uber organised but still with that smiley, cheeky chappy persona.
When the photos came back to us there were so many magic moments that we hadn’t seen and were unaware were happening! All in all, the day was perfect and Sam was a MASSIVE part of it, not only being a good friend, lending a shoulder to cry happy tears on, soothing the nerves by cracking a joke
HARRIET & NICO

We received some special surprises on the day and some sneak peek photos the day after our wedding which we didn’t expect so soon. Everyone has already commented on how beautiful the photographs are.
